Notes:

tab xtab nyepThis is a pirated edition of an article originally published in The Literary Review section of the New York Evening Post, Dec. 11, 1920. An unknown number of copies were printed and distributed. Cabell vocally objected to its publication, so it is curious that he has signed the copy at left above in his distinctive hand. Allegedly, all but twenty-five copies were destroyed. As can be seen, the example on the left above has been damaged and has a jagged 2 ¼ inch long hole torn completely through along the edge of the text. Might this then be an example of a "destroyed " copy?

For those who are interested, scans of the complete text of the pirated Taboo, Hall Tab-x, and the original printing of "The Taboo in Literature", from the New York Evening Post, Brewer No. 258, are available at left.
