James Branch Cabell : An Illustrated Bibliography

THESE RESTLESS HEADS: A Trilogy of Romantics

Notes:

Beginning with this title, Cabell published under the name "Branch Cabell." His intent was to separate his later work from The Biography of Manuel. He resumed using his full name in 1946, with the publication of There Were Two Pirates.

You'll note that the Hall issue codes skip from "A2b" directly to "C1"; there are no "B" codes. The reason for this is unknown - perhaps he had a report of a possible English printing, and left room for it just in case?

Letter from the Brick Row Book Shop:

letterThe 1920s "Modern First Edition" collecting boom was fading but still present in the early thirties. This letter, laid into a copy of TRH-A2, is titled "WHEN A SECOND PRINTING IS A FIRST EDITION," and was intended to reassure nervous buyers that this printing is the legitimate first trade edition. The Brick Row Book Shop was a very well known book dealer at the time. Brick Row is still in business, and their shop is now located in San Francisco.
